The View Hosts Clash: Greenland, Venezuela, and the Law (2026)

In a lively and contentious episode of "The View," the hosts found themselves in a heated debate reminiscent of earlier days, sparked by the controversial topics of Greenland and Venezuela. The discussion escalated so much that moderator Joy Behar had to interject with a reminder that "we're on television!"

The sparks flew during the very first Hot Topic segment, where the women delved into the Republican backlash against former President Trump’s renewed suggestion to purchase Greenland. Co-host Sunny Hostin raised a provocative question: why are lawmakers vehemently opposed to acquiring Greenland while being seemingly apathetic about the U.S. actions regarding Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro? She quickly clarified that Greenland is not up for sale, drawing a striking comparison between the two geopolitical situations.

Hostin emphasized, "Neither is Venezuela, and its oil certainly doesn’t belong to us. Yet, we intervened there, taking the president—which I’ve referred to as a kidnapping because that’s exactly what it felt like—and seizing control of Venezuela’s oil resources. It seems we're intending to funnel that money into offshore accounts. So why is it acceptable to do this in Venezuela but not in Greenland?"

In response, Ana Navarro interjected, expressing her affection for Hostin while firmly disagreeing. She argued that equating Greenland with Venezuela overlooks critical differences.

"Let’s consider the facts here. Venezuela operates under a dictatorship, while Greenland does not," Navarro stated. "Denmark is an ally of ours, and Greenland is part of that alliance. We maintain military bases and operations in Greenland, and Denmark is a member of NATO, just like us. In contrast, Venezuela is notorious for brutal repression—where dissenters face imprisonment, violence, and torture. Treating Greenland and Venezuela as analogous undermines the severity of the situation in Venezuela.'

This assertion ignited Hostin's response. "No, we don’t! The law stands firm. What we did in Venezuela was illegal, and similarly, it would be unlawful to act in such a manner toward Greenland!"

Navarro reiterated her earlier points from the week, maintaining that while the strategies employed in Venezuela deserve scrutiny, she celebrates the progress alongside the Venezuelan people. However, she also stressed, "I won’t deem the operation in Venezuela a success until every political prisoner is freed and we have genuine democratic elections."

Hostin pressed further, questioning whether Navarro believes it’s acceptable for the U.S. to take Venezuelan oil. Navarro retorted, "Venezuelans feel it’s justified because Maduro has stolen it from them!"

As their argument intensified over the legality of U.S. actions and whether legal considerations even matter, the hosts began talking over one another, with Alyssa Farah Griffin struggling to interject. Eventually, Behar raised her voice to regain control of the conversation, reminding everyone, "Hold on! Ana, we’re on television!"

Griffin, who is eight months pregnant, chimed in, "Can we all just take turns speaking? What are we doing?"

From that point onward, the dialogue became more coherent, although the disagreement persisted. They managed to wrap up the segment with differing views still intact.
