Water Crisis: 11 Areas Hit by Sudden Pipeline Breakdown, Low Pressure in Battaramulla
January 3, 2026
A sudden and unexpected breakdown in the main transmission pipeline from Ambatale has caused a significant water supply disruption across several areas, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) announced. This critical infrastructure failure has left 11 communities without access to clean water.
The affected areas include Moratuwa, Rawatawatta, Soysapura, Ratmalana, Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, Wellawatte, Pamankada, Mulleriyawa, and Kolonnawa. Residents in these regions will face water shortages and must conserve their limited resources until the pipeline is repaired.
Additionally, consumers in Battaramulla will experience low water pressure, making daily tasks more challenging. The NWSDB assured the public that repair work is underway, urging everyone to use water sparingly during this period.
This crisis highlights the vulnerability of our water supply infrastructure and the need for proactive maintenance. It's crucial to address these issues promptly to ensure the well-being of our communities and prevent further disruptions.
